Chinese Brush Painting

Valda Hsu

Teaching artist Valda Hsu demonstrates the connection between Chinese characters and painting with a Chinese brush. She creates an environment that introduces students to the Chinese language and culture while they participate in painting animals, landscapes and other traditional subjects from nature. Students will learn to write their names using ideograms. The artist will introduce the traditional formats to further students' knowledge of various types of presentation (album leaf, hanging scroll, etc.).
