Natural Dyeing 45 Minute Lecture/Demonstration

Students learn how textiles have been dyed at various periods in cultures around the world, and discover how different fibers and mordants yield different colors using the same dye pot. Classes may keep the samples. Solar dye pots may be set up and left for classes to study. This workshop can be a 45 minute Lecture/Demonstration or 2-3 day residency.

Grade Levels: 3,4,5,6,7,8

Fees: $110 single, $95 each for 2 or more on the same day; A $110 planning meeting is required for a residency; Materials Fee: $15 per class / The break between workshops must not exceed 90 minutes to receive the reduced rate. Title 1 Schools may qualify for funding assistance.

Teacher Guide: natural dyeing

Requirements: For Residency only: A well-ventilated room; tables; a source of electricity and water nearby. The artist will bring all materials needed, including hot plates to cook dyes, paid planning meeting.
