Natural Dyeing

Students learn how textiles have been dyed at various periods in cultures around the world, and discover how different fibers and mordants yield different colors using the same dye pot. Classes may keep the samples. Solar dye pots may be set up and left for classes to study.

Grade Levels: 3,4,5,6,7,8

Fees: $127 single, $109 each for 2 or more on the same day; Materials Fee: $15 per class (May require additional materials fees per student depending on project.) / The break between workshops must not exceed 90 minutes to receive the reduced rate. Title 1 Schools may qualify for funding assistance.

Maximum Audience Size: 30 students

Teacher Guide: natural dyeing

Requirements: A well-ventilated room; tables; a source of electricity and water nearby. The artist will bring all materials needed, including hot plates to cook dyes, paid planning meeting.
