Painting with Oils

Oils are a time-honored medium that has lasted for centuries. Students will learn the fundamentals of oil painting and the safe handling of the solvent and paints. The students will be shown the technique of drawing using only a brush on a toned surface. They will be completing a painting alla prima (wet into wet). Gessoed hardboard or canvas panels will be used for painting surfaces.

Grade Levels: 6,7,8,9,10,11,12

Fees: $110 single, $95 each for 2 or more on the same day;A residency requires one $110 planning meeting; Materials fee: to be determined / The break between workshops must not exceed 90 minutes to receive the reduced rate. Title 1 Schools may qualify for funding assistance.

Program Length: 3-5 Day Residency

Requirements: $110.00 planning meeting is required. Materials fee will vary based on length of the residency and materials needed. Oil Paint supplies: Alizarin or Permanent Madder Deep, Cad Red Medium, Cad Yellow Med, Ultramarine Blue, Permalba White, Yellow Ochre, Trans. Red Oxide, Assortment of Bristle Brushes including various sizes of Flat Canvas, gessoed board or canvas panels (minimum 2 per student), Solvent (Odorless Mineral Spirits) and containers, palettes and paper towels.
